Pre-planting tips for farmers using Climate FieldView header image

Planting season is fast approaching, and some farmers may already be out in the fields. Meanwhile the weather continues to do what it does - that is whatever it wants to do. So, it’s more important now than ever to be able to modify your farm management plans and adapt on the fly if the weather demands it.

First thing is to make sure your Climate FieldView™ account is ready for planting season. We’ve pulled together some helpful information to help you set up your FieldView app so you can accurately collect your as-planted, as-applied, and fall harvest data, all of which will help with your decision-making now and throughout the year on your farm.

How to Accurately Collect Field Data

To help get spring planting off to a smooth start, growers should first determine how to get their seeding and planting data into FieldView. You have options to ensure you’re capturing all you can for the season ahead. These include:

The Climate FieldView Drive transfers data to your Climate FieldView account automatically, allowing you to see your farm’s field maps being generated in real-time. If you don’t have one already, the FieldView Drive is simple to install and is currently compatible with many tractors, planters, seeders, sprayers and combines. John Deere, Case IH adapter cable kits are now available for use with older tractors and sprayers, bypassing the need for a diagnostic port and making it easier to install the FieldView Drive. Field data connectivity with FieldView is also enabled through Precision Planting 20/20 SeedSense® monitors or John Deere Wireless Data Server (WDS) technology in the cab. How to Set Up Your Cab App

As you prepare for planting season, remember to set up your equipment in the FieldView Cab app to ensure seamless and accurate data collection. Double check your yield units – metric or imperial – and remember to tap on Analysis and Notifications to receive insights and reminders from us throughout the season.

You’ll also want to make sure to turn on CloudSync from the Cab app home screen. This will ensure you have an established connection for syncing your data to the cloud. An active subscription is required to use this feature.

How to Set the Right Field Boundaries

Entering accurate field boundaries for your farm fields in the app is a second step. Doing this will enable accurate data collection throughout the season. You can manage your field list and boundaries for your entire growing operation by logging into your account at climatefieldview.ca

How to Optimize Your Seed Investment with Seed Scripts

To help you make the most of spring planting on your farm, Climate FieldView offers two customizable options to generate variable rate seeding prescriptions for your fields. FieldView Seed Scripts uses your historical yield data, combined with proprietary field-testing results, to help you optimize your seed investment across your operation.

A manual seeding prescription tool is also available to improve farm productivity and customize your seeding plan for each field. For step-by-step manual prescription instructions, click here.

Before you start, don’t forget to upload your scripts created in FieldView to your OEM monitor so you’re ready to go!
